Why this site exists
Almost every Minecraft guide on the internet is written for someone in the United States or Europe. Prices are in dollars, “low ping” means 20 ms to a server in Virginia, and hosting advice assumes your ISP hands out public IP addresses. None of that is true in South Africa.
MinecraftSA started as a community server. When we stopped hosting it in 2026, the questions from South African players kept coming — how much does the game cost in rand, why is my ping 180, which server host is actually local, how do I open a port on a Vumatel or Openserve line. So we rebuilt the site around the answers. Every guide here is written from South Africa, checked against the current version of the game, and updated when the game or the prices change.

Is MinecraftSA a Minecraft server?
No. MinecraftSA is an independent guide and tools website for Minecraft players in South Africa. We do not run a game server — our guide to servers for South African players explains where to play and what ping to expect.
Are the guides written for Java or Bedrock Edition?
Both. Every guide notes where Java and Bedrock behave differently, and the crossplay guide explains the split in detail.
Why are prices given in rand?
Because almost every other Minecraft site quotes dollars. Our price guides use the South African Microsoft, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and app-store prices, checked periodically against the official stores.
Are the tools free?
Yes. Every calculator on this site is free, runs in your browser and needs no account.
