An independent Minecraft guide site written from South Africa, for the questions the rest of the internet answers in dollars and Virginia ping.
What this site is
MinecraftSA is a collection of long-form guides and free calculators for Minecraft players in South Africa. Every guide is written by people who play the game here, on South African fibre and LTE, buying it from South African stores, and dealing with the specific problems that come with that — 180 ms ping to European servers, CGNAT on home connections, prices that move with the rand.
Guides cover both Java and Bedrock Edition and flag where they differ. We check content against the current version of the game (currently 1.21) and mark each guide with the date it was last reviewed.
What happened to the server
From 2024 to mid-2026 MinecraftSA ran a free community survival server hosted in Johannesburg. We closed it in 2026: running a public server well is a full-time moderation job, and we could not keep doing it properly. The site has since been rebuilt around the guides, which were always the part people used most. How the site is funded
Through display advertising served by Google AdSense. We do not sell products, accounts, in-game currency or server listings, and we do not publish sponsored content. Advertising never influences what a guide says. See our privacy policy for how ad cookies work.
How we check things
- Game mechanics are tested in the game or checked against the game’s data files, not copied from other sites.
- Prices in rand are read from the South African storefronts and re-checked periodically; the guide states the date. Exchange rates move, so always confirm on the store before buying.
- Ping figures are our own measurements from Johannesburg and Cape Town fibre connections, given as ranges because ISP routing varies.
- Corrections are welcome and acted on. Use the contact page and include the guide URL.
