How to use it
Type the number of items and pick the stack size. The calculator shows full stacks and the remainder, how many inventory slots the items occupy, and how many chests, double chests, shulker boxes and ender chests you need. The table at the bottom goes up to a double chest full of shulker boxes, which is the practical maximum for one block’s worth of storage.
Stack sizes, and the items that break the rule
Almost every block and most items stack to 64. The exceptions are worth memorising because they decide how many slots a trip takes:
- 16: ender pearls, eggs, snowballs, signs and hanging signs, honey bottles, written books, banners, armour stands, and buckets that contain something (water, lava, milk, fish, powder snow). Empty buckets stack to 16 as well.
- 1: tools, weapons, armour, shields, elytra, potions, beds, boats and minecarts, cakes, shulker boxes, saddles, music discs, maps that are filled, and most “equipment”.
Bedrock and Java agree on nearly all of these.

Frequently asked questions
How many items are in a stack?
Most blocks and items stack to 64. Some stack to 16 — ender pearls, eggs, snowballs, signs, honey bottles, buckets of anything, banners, armour stands and written books. Tools, weapons, armour, potions, beds, boats, minecarts, cakes and shulker boxes do not stack at all.
How much does a chest hold?
A single chest has 27 slots, so 27 stacks — 1,728 of a 64-stack item. A double chest has 54 slots: 3,456 items. A shulker box also holds 27 slots (1,728) and keeps its contents when broken.
How many items fit in a double chest of shulker boxes?
54 shulker boxes × 27 slots × 64 = 93,312 items of a 64-stack item. An ender chest holds 27 shulkers: 46,656 items, accessible from anywhere.
How many stacks is 1,000 blocks?
